someone stole my tyres!

hehe, it’s been 24K km and i’ve yet to do a tyre rotation. the outsides are wearing out faster than the insides. brought fittie over to my dad’s friend’s workshop.

it was raining when i brought the car over and the workshop had no other customers at that time. i had 3 mechanics attending to my car! what luck. within 2 minutes they took out all 4 tyres and immediately checked for each wheel’s balance.

after the necessary balancing and rotation was done, the wheel alignment had to be checked as well. i had a little surprise when i found out that my wheel’s camber was positive. no wonder my tyres are wearing out on the outside. @_@

i asked the mechanic to tweak the camber back to 0° and some camber nut has to be replaced. next, was the wheel’s toe. it was quite off as well, but luckily there’s no need to replace anything.

the wheels are now good to go and the final check was to find out if the steering is corresponding properly to the car’s direction. a good way to test was to drive on a straight flat road and keep the steering straight. then let go of both hands and see if the car will steer left or right automatically. it was all good!

my dad could feel that the handling is better now after the alignment was corrected. total damage: RM130. the freaking camber nuts cost RM90 per pair.

new bodykit!

love the new bodykit! it’s the new fit hybrid sold in japan this year. the official colour for the fit hybrid is green now. thanks to the wonders of photoshop, i changed it to the blue that we have. i wonder if solomon bros already start to make moulds out of this kit. dig that fog light and the front bumper.

the car was due for its 3rd servicing already. we can already feel the sluggishness of the worn out engine oil, and now it’s time to get new ones.

as usual, went to eddie at jln bumbong and got my car’s engine oil, cvtf and battery replaced. mc felt the price was a bit on the high side, so probably for the next servicing, i’m gonna look for alternative cheaper option.

also, we set our rear wiper to vertical position now. not for the fancy sporty look, but more of practicality use. no more dust, ashes, dried leaves stuck on the rear wiper! yay!

pearl of orient

it’s been a while since i’ve gone on a trip with my family and this time it’s mc’s first time going on a holiday with my parents too!

this time it’s a really short trip (3d2n) to penang. thanks to the freaking delay from jetstar. =\
nonetheless, the primary objective of the trip was for my parents to visit the house mansion where my mom spent some time during her younger years. it’s the cheong fatt tze mansion on the right.

in the eighties, the cheong descendants couldn’t maintain the mansion anymore (who could? there are 38 rooms and 5 courtyards to upkeep!) and it was sold to others as an effort to preserve its rich history as well as its intricate architecture. they did a good job on the restoration works, but according to my parents, the house didn’t quite have the same furniture the way they remembered it. we had to pay rm12 per person to visit the house and they have tours going on each day for tourists to visit.

the rest of the trip was food, food and more food! penang laksa, char kuay teow, prawn mee, wan tan mee, or luak, etc are all local delicacies there. my calories must have shot way up high during the 3 days there.

adobe refresh 2011

adobe refresh 2011
this event rocks! forget about geeks taking over the world, the speakers from this seminar is totally cool. they know their stuffs, convinced thousands of people all over the world and literally tour around the world as an adobe evangelist!

with the recent exposure to more GA stuffs and how idevices hate flash players, i’ve slowly given up on developing on flash by the day. not by choice, but compelled by clients who want to have their website supported on ipads and tablets. no more full-flash sites, no more flash-based navigations, no more complicated flash stuffs, etc. it’s a good thing, but very soon, i find myself forgetting to upgrade along with the birth of actionscript 3.

as3 has been around for some years now. developed some really simple stuffs on as3 and i still liked as2 better. but after attending the seminar, i feel i gotta move on to as3. the only reason was, flash can now develop apps for iphone, ipad, android and soon-to-be-released blackberry playbook. when i say flash can develop apps for iphone/ipads, it doesn’t mean apple allowed flash player on their mobile safari browsers. it meant flash can finally be used to create iphone/ipad apps natively. yes! you can now create these apps as .ipa files and .bar files for android phones.

using only 1 file in flash, you now have the possibility to create for multiple platform for ios, android, playbook, tv (certain modern tv now have integrated adobe air support), pc, linux and mac! you’ve got to see how the evangelist paul burnett present. it got my attention and i really hope to be able to develop apps on ios, androids using flash! with the introduction of this capability, i don’t have to learn how to use xcode and objective-c to develop ios apps and then relearn another language for androids. i just have to rely on actionscript 3. shioks.

some highlights of the seminar:
“The day will focus on this year’s big issue – publishing your content to multiple screens and multiple devices. We will feature some of the best content from Adobe MAX, a whole bunch of stuff that is more recent than MAX and a huge amount of stuff that isn’t even released yet.”

“This year we are also doing an Adobe Town Hall – for those of you not familiar with this, it is a lively, straight talking forum where you get to ask anything you like of the team (within reason).”

“And everyone’s favorite session each year – the Sneak Peeks, is back with a shoebox full of bizarre and amazing futuristic solutions to problems you may not even know you had.”

by the way, when playbook is out, try to see what it can do. it’s really a mini computer in your hands. it’s capable of multitasking (at the same runtime – yea i seen it run quake 3 arena AND need for speed AND 6 other graphic intensive apps at the same time – lived!). that’s all? nah, it has some other handy features but i was more interested in the raw processing power it can handle in today’s applications. plus, like ipad2, this playbook can also output to your HD TV/projectors via hdmi port. with this in mind, you can just bring your bluray-ripped videos to your friends house with home theatre and enjoy cinema-like quality! if i had the money to burn, i’d definitely get myself one of these toys.
