adobe refresh 2011
this event rocks! forget about geeks taking over the world, the speakers from this seminar is totally cool. they know their stuffs, convinced thousands of people all over the world and literally tour around the world as an adobe evangelist!

with the recent exposure to more GA stuffs and how idevices hate flash players, i’ve slowly given up on developing on flash by the day. not by choice, but compelled by clients who want to have their website supported on ipads and tablets. no more full-flash sites, no more flash-based navigations, no more complicated flash stuffs, etc. it’s a good thing, but very soon, i find myself forgetting to upgrade along with the birth of actionscript 3.

as3 has been around for some years now. developed some really simple stuffs on as3 and i still liked as2 better. but after attending the seminar, i feel i gotta move on to as3. the only reason was, flash can now develop apps for iphone, ipad, android and soon-to-be-released blackberry playbook. when i say flash can develop apps for iphone/ipads, it doesn’t mean apple allowed flash player on their mobile safari browsers. it meant flash can finally be used to create iphone/ipad apps natively. yes! you can now create these apps as .ipa files and .bar files for android phones.

using only 1 file in flash, you now have the possibility to create for multiple platform for ios, android, playbook, tv (certain modern tv now have integrated adobe air support), pc, linux and mac! you’ve got to see how the evangelist paul burnett present. it got my attention and i really hope to be able to develop apps on ios, androids using flash! with the introduction of this capability, i don’t have to learn how to use xcode and objective-c to develop ios apps and then relearn another language for androids. i just have to rely on actionscript 3. shioks.

some highlights of the seminar:
“The day will focus on this year’s big issue – publishing your content to multiple screens and multiple devices. We will feature some of the best content from Adobe MAX, a whole bunch of stuff that is more recent than MAX and a huge amount of stuff that isn’t even released yet.”

“This year we are also doing an Adobe Town Hall – for those of you not familiar with this, it is a lively, straight talking forum where you get to ask anything you like of the team (within reason).”

“And everyone’s favorite session each year – the Sneak Peeks, is back with a shoebox full of bizarre and amazing futuristic solutions to problems you may not even know you had.”

by the way, when playbook is out, try to see what it can do. it’s really a mini computer in your hands. it’s capable of multitasking (at the same runtime – yea i seen it run quake 3 arena AND need for speed AND 6 other graphic intensive apps at the same time – lived!). that’s all? nah, it has some other handy features but i was more interested in the raw processing power it can handle in today’s applications. plus, like ipad2, this playbook can also output to your HD TV/projectors via hdmi port. with this in mind, you can just bring your bluray-ripped videos to your friends house with home theatre and enjoy cinema-like quality! if i had the money to burn, i’d definitely get myself one of these toys.
